One Yummy Meal!

+

= One Yummy Meal!!

This weekend, I noticed that pears were on sale at the grocery store. So I picked up a few pears and I wasn't quite sure what to do with them (Sam won't eat them). So I googled pear recipes and I found this really yummy recipe! It's kind of a weird combination, but it's got a real fresh taste to is! Sam and I really enjoyed it! I hope you all enjoy it too! :)

Ham, Cheese, and Pear Sandwich

Ingredients

1 crusty French baguette, cute lengthwise
thin slices of good ham

thin slices of pear (apple would work well here too)

arugula

cheese (I used brie, but Gruyere would be heavenly)

freshly cracked black pepper

Open the baguette. On one side, pile arugula, then ham. But sure the ham covers the arugula. On the other piece of bread, put down a healthy layer of cheese, then thin slices of pear. Sprinkle with pepper. Place the sandwich under a broiler until the cheese has melted and the ham is slightly toasted. Enjoy!!

BTW- depending on the direction you hold the sandwich , you get a different taste! It's quite fun!

Talk About a Change!

I have some exciting news for you all! About a month ago I applied at this really awesome school, not thinking that I'd have much of a chance at getting it. It's a parent choice charter school (K-12) and they have a REALLY good reputation (I think their API is like 815- which is AMAZING!). It's projects based and so they teach all the subjects through projects, like creating a garden and then including math, science, reading, etc into it all.

I was shocked last week when the school contacted me and wanted to interview me (they had over 300 applicants, and they only interviewed 19 with only 3 positions available!!) Well, I interviewed last week and I thought that I totally bombed the interview. To my surprise, they called me on Friday and they OFFERED ME A JOB!!!! I'm SOO excited! I'll be teaching 1st grade, which will be quite a change for me from 3rd grade! They are also giving me a signficant raise, compared to what I'm making now.

I'll be starting the last week of July (when the teacher's have to be back) and then the kids come August 4th. They're on the modified traditional schedule, so right now they're on a 3 week Spring Break (3 weeks! That's soo awesome!). They also have 2 weeks in October, a week at Thanksgiving, and 3 weeks for Christmas.

This is VERY bittersweet for me because I love the people that I work with. I've been an emotional roller coaster since Friday. . . I'm happy one minute and then so sad to leave the next. Sam and I both feel like this is where I need to be, so we'll follow in faith. Sam keeps telling me that I've been ready for a change for a while. . . so hopefully things will turn out ok. But I'll always have a special place in my heart for Montara and ALL the wonderful people that I work with!!

100 Movies to See Before You Die

So I found this list through Yahoo and it has a list of 100 movies you should see before you die. Apparently, I don't watch enough movies because I've only seen 15 of the movies they mentioned. Sam will be really happy to see that Star Wars made the list. *gag*! How many have you seen?!?

When it Rains, it Pours

Those were Sam's exact words to me yesterday, and I couldn't agree more. The good news is that Franklin quickly recovered and we were able to pick him up from the vet's yesterday, after paying a pretty penny for his vet bills. Oh well. We're glad we have him back. That's the good news.

Well, yesterday (on the way to pick up Franklin from the vet) I was involved in a little car accident. My carpool buddy and I were driving home from work and we were stopped at a stoplight. The lady behind us just plowed right into us. She said that her foot slipped off the foot pedal, but she hit us pretty hard. Luckily, the damage wasn't too bad. My carpool buddy's bumper is all messed up but the car that hit us had pretty much no damage to it.

Unfortunately, I already have neck problems because of a previous car accident that I was in about 5 years ago. I regularly go to a chiropractor because of these neck problems. Needless to say that this new accident hasn't helped me heal. My neck and back have been pretty painful today. So I took the day off today to get it all checked out. I went to the doctor today and they took x-rays of my back and neck. Everything looked fine, but my muscles and back are pretty sore. She gave me some muscle relaxers (those make me SOO happy!!) and I basically just rested and slept. Hopefully I'll start to feel better soon!!

This has just been a REALLY expensive month with Franklin's bills, my doctor bills (and now add additional chiropractor bills), taxes, repairing our heater, replacing our front door and security screen. It just goes on. Things could be MUCH worse. I'm grateful for that. It just always seems like life just goes along smoothly and then all of a sudden everything just seems to hit at once. I guess that's just how things go! :)

Lil' Franklin

I'm so sad today. Our little kitty Franklin has been sick all weekend long (figures that it happens on a weekend). He started throwing up Friday night and we just figured that he'd get it out of his system eventually. Well, today (Monday) he was still throwing up. So Sam dropped him off at the vet's and the vet told us that his kidneys are bad. It could've been something that he ate, or he could just have defective kidneys. :(. His white blood count is really high too, which means that there's some kind of an infection. So we kept him overnight so that they can continue to give him antibiotics and monitor him. Then in the morning the vet will check him out. If he doesn't improve, we may have to put him down. :(. He's still so young. . . only 5 months old...poor guy! We're really praying that he'll pull through!

Obsessed?! I Think So!!

I'm so excited! Now I can officially say that we're going to Paris NEXT MONTH!! Woohoo! In celebration of this momentous occasion, I have changed my music play list to French songs. OK, I SOO don't speak a word of French. . . so if any of these songs are bad, please let me know ASAP!! :) I've also posted a video of scenes of Paris (see above video).

Other than our upcoming Paris trip, not much is going on with us. Sam's busy with classes and I've been busy with work (it's report card season! *blech*), Ward Conferences, and just life. I wish we were more exciting! :)!
